New crafter on the blog

There is nothing I like more than losing myself in a craft project - whether that is baking a cake or knitting a jumper. Yet I find myself never quite able to find the time to do what I love.
So, in an attempt to bring more craft to my life and finish all of those projects I start and never have the time to finish, I have decided to join the craft blogosphere. I am hoping that writing about what I am making, and sharing my ideas, will help bring me back into the craft zone.

Which brings me to my current project - a pair of fingerless mitts I am making for a friend's birthday. They're a k3, p2 rib on the palm side and 'fake' cable pattern on the other side. I still need to finish the thumb gusset on the right one and have pretty much the whole of the left one still to do.

I don't know what it is about knitting on double pointed needles, but I find it so relaxing. I just wish I had chosen a more delicate yarn for these mitts - rather than just nicking 'any ball of purple that's going spare' off my mum. This Debbie Bliss DK 100% wool is lovely and will be very warm but I think the prettiness of the pattern  is lost in the yarn. Not to worry though,  I have some vintage ribbon in a purple polka dot that I'm thinking of threading through the cables. That will pretty them up!
